Romantic getaway

your guide to the perfect romantic getaway

Whether its your first getaway together or your 50th anniversary trip, it can be intimidating when you’re trying to plan a trip to impress your sweetheart. But don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with tips on how to plan the perfect romantic getaway.

  • Go in the off-season. In addition to being good on your wallet, visiting during off season often means less crowds so you don’t feel rushed through your trip.
  • Accommodations are VERY important. Pick a gorgeous hotel room that makes you feel like royalty. Maybe its a once-in-a-lifetime view. Or an XL soaking tub in front of the fire. If you end up staying in the whole time, you’ll still have an amazing time! Here are some I’ve been dreaming of:
    • Enchantment Resort - Sedona, AZ
    • Gramercy Park Hotel - New York, NY
    • Pitcher Inn - Warren, VT
    • The Siren Hotel - Detroit, MI
    • Viceroy Chicago - Chicago, IL
    • Hotel Cashiers - Cashiers, NC
    • The Restoration - Charleston, SC
  • Or try out another life by renting a vacation home. Rent a home that inspires you to see new sights and try new things. This is a great way to get closer to your special someone!
  • If there was ever a time for room service, this is it. Yes, its expensive but when you don’t want to leave your room, its also very worth it.
  • Skip the standard mall attractions. (Bungee jumping, mini golfing, indoor rock climbing, etc.) Save it for your next trip with the kids.
  • ....Buuuuut maybe a little extra adrenaline is good. Studies have found that some adrenaline makes you more attracted to someone. For some grown-up adventures try:
    • Explore the cenotes in Mexico's Yucatán
    • Experience the thrill of a Formula car at Skip Barber Racing School in Lime Rock Park, Connecticut
    • Sail on the Dove, a 54-foot sailboat with two guest cabins, based in Antigua
    • Navigate the white waters of the Tuolumne River near Yosemite National Park
    • Hike the Via Ferrata at Amangiri in Canyon Point, Utah, with its network of fixed cables and iron rungs along rock canyon walls
    • Dive with sharks off the coast of Florida
    • Head to Colorado for ice climbing in the winter and rock climbing in the summer
  • Customize your itinerary to your tastes. This time is all about the two of you. Want to stay in bed in your bathrobe the whole time? We wouldn’t judge. Are cozy art museums more your thing? Go for it! Looking for the nightlife? Sounds like a blast! Do what makes the two of you happiest.
  • But don’t count out down time! Okay I know some of you are thinking, “but Emma, you just said to do what makes me happy and I like planning out every moment of my trip!“ I hear you, but trust me, build some time into your schedule to slow down and just spend some time together. You‘d be surprised how romantic “doing nothing“ is sometimes.
  • Can’t afford to go anywhere but still want to impress your boo? There’s nothing wrong with a little staycation! No one said you have to go far away to spend some quality time together. Try being a tourist in your own backyard - sometimes just a change of perspective is all your need.
